8th INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON

COMPUTATIONAL ELECTRONICS (IWCE-8)

Beckman Institute, University of Illinois

October 15 - 18, 2001

The 8th International Workshop on Computational Electronics will be held at the Beckman Institute of the University of Illinois, 405 N. Mathews Avenue, Urbana, Illinois 61801, USA, October 15-18 (2001). Previous workshops were held in Urbana, Illinois (1992); Leeds, UK (1993); Portland, Oregon (1994); Tempe, Arizona (1995); South Bend, Indiana (1997); Osaka, Japan (1998) and Glasgow, Scotland (2000).

The workshop will cover all aspects of advanced simulation of electronic properties of semiconductors and semiconductor devices, particularly those that require the use of large computational resources. The scientific program, organized in a single session format, will consist of invited talks, contributed talks and poster session. Active participation of graduate students is strongly encouraged.

Scope

The workshop is intended to be an international forum for the discussion of current trends and future directions of computational electronics. The emphasis of the contributions will be on interdisciplinary aspects of Computational Electronics, encompassing Applied Physics, Engineering and Applied Mathematics. General topic areas are:

  1. Advances in conventional device simulation including process modeling.
  2. Particle simulation methods (Monte Carlo, Molecular Dynamics, Cellular Automata)
  3. Atomistic simulations with emphasis on density functional theory.
  4. Simulation of optoelectronic and electro-optic devices, particularly semiconductor laser diodes, VCSEL’s, diode arrays.
  5. Nano-structure simulations including quantum transport and quantum devices.
  6. High performance computing for computational electronics (parallel computation, improved numerical algorithms).

Participation – Abstract Submission

At this early stage we would like to collect information from perspective participants, so that we can manage electronically, as much as possible, the dissemination of conference information. If you plan to participate in IWCE-8, please, submit as soon as possible your name, affiliation and e-mail address to the conference secretary (Sara Starkey : sara@ceg.uiuc.edu). Respondents will be entered in our database and will receive workshop e-mail correspondence, as well as reminders regarding the various deadlines.  Deadline for abstract submission is June 15, 2001. One-page abstracts should be submitted by e-mail, preferably as a Microsoft Word or pdf attachment. We plan to publish the workshop proceedings on a special journal issue. Detailed instructions and information will be posted on the workshop web page as they become available.
